A palimpsest is a manuscript page, from which the original text has been scraped or washed off, so that the page could be reused for another document. Gabriele and Gerald used the form for a combination of watercolor and ink with asemic writing; i.e., without semantic content. You can find examples in works of Paul Klee, Joan Miró, Rashid Koraichi, Cy Twombly and others.
Finally, the postcard was sent to Mikel Untzilla.

Since Vincent van Gogh’s sunflowers, every artist has painted flowers at some point in his or her career. Therefore, I thought the gallery in the Philippines would receive tons of cards and letters.
Maybe they did.
We don’t know because nobody ever reacted to the works that were submitted. There was no confirmation; there was no exhibition; there was only silence.
If you look up the address on Google Earth, you find a poor area with nothing that resembles a gallery.
Well, it seems that you find imposters everywhere, even in the mail art network …

Mikel Untzilla is a very active mail artist. He sent a combination of stamps that characterize the current year. (Let’s hope it will get better.) He maintains a facebook presence with art from all over the place.
“Art is the most beautiful answer to the questions of the world”, says Ervin Zsubori, who is the driving force behind Arnolfini’s Archives. The Hungarian art project specializes in small-scale e-mail art. 600×600 px is all the space you get to make your contribution to one of his thematic online exhibitions. Thus, the contributions are the equivalent to flash prose in the visual arts.
The theme for the exhibition #54 was Kerekek / Wheels.
Because he was born in the year of the Hungarian uprising against the Stalinist leaders, Gerald went for a biographical approach. He combined a photo of his first vehicle and its motherly driver with the political headlines of the day.
The COVID-19 pandemic has revealed the actual dimension of irrationality in our, well, modern societies.
Be it the believers of the theory that Bill Gates has caused COVID, be it president Trump who suggested injecting disinfectant as a treatment, the medieval times and their beliefs seem quite near. As the Washington Post put it: No vaccine can end the pandemic of ignorance.
Gerald’s postcard which appeared in a limited edition of 3 copies shows the fictitious saint of the triangle. The Latin plea above his head says: “Protect us from the plague.” Under his feet is the score of a Gregorian song during the time of pestilence which implores the star of heaven who nourished the Lord.
The drawing was included in an exhibition on the topic pandemic art, curated by the Artlife Foundation in Ventura, CA, USA. The exhibition was then transferred to Romania.
Free as a bird (in Dutch: Vrij als een vogel) ist the title of an exhibition of postcards in The Hague / Den Haag which (hopefully) will take place in autumn 2021.
The collaborative work of Gerald an Gabriele consists of a painting and a tongue-in-cheek-poem titled A Rare Song. The second of five prints of this card became part of an online project by a British fine art student.

Gabriele is a painter, writer and sworn translator for Spanish. Her works part have been shown in exhibitions in Austria and Guatemala. Her short stories have appeared in various anthologies and literary magazines.
She is active in the mail art community with collaborative and solo works.

The Piccola Galleria Resistente in Naples will show the exhibition Veni Volti Veni for 13 days. Afterwards you will still find the exhibits on Instagram.
This is the first exhibition to show one of the cooperative works of Gabriele and Gerald, a combination of a poem and a drawing, version #3 of 3, to be exact.
Thomas Nemec, painter and printmaker, started the new year with art prints that he distributed among his friends. Nemec is an established artist and printmaker whose works have been shown in solo exhibitions in a dozen European countries.
