“It is not the mountain we conquer, but ourselves” …

… runs the famous quote by Edmund Hillary, who, alongside Tenzing Norgay, was one of the first two humans to reach the summit of Mount Everest.

This could well be the motto for this year’s World Book Day exhibition at Bristol University.

This combination inspired 189 artists to submit 200 works that explore the theme of mountains through books and texts. The contributors come from Argentina, Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, UK, and the USA.

Once again, the call and the exhibition have been organized by Sarah Bodman and Linda Parr.
