Multimedia Dreams on an Island

How do you build a dream archive? Greek artist Vanessa Tοuzlοukof started with an international call for mail art. “You are invited to send a dream of yours, recorded both in your native language and in English and illustrated in any visual medium you like”, she wrote.

During the summer, incoming contributions were published on facebook. Now, in September the whole archive is shown in the Ametron Gallery in the Old Town of Chaniá, Crete – which is without doubt one the most beautiful places of the Mediterranean Sea.

The exhibition is accompanied by a sound installation designed by Greek composer Anna Stereopoulou and includes audio dreams that were submitted by various artists.

The picture at the top of the article shows a panorama of Chaniá’s port and Gerald Jatzek’s contribution consisting of a dreamlike poem combined with a photo that he took on Tioman. This island off the coast of Malaysia is said to be a fossilized dragon lost in eternal dreams.

On the right you see Gabriele Müller’s contribution, a watercolor painting of dreams in an imgaginary landscape.
