The Iceberg of Mallorca

Works by Lars Schumacher, Lisa Boloa, Duo Czeszre

An iceberg melts and we are to watch and to speak out: Speaking Icebergish is a presentation of the results of an international mail art call by the German artist Judith Sturm.

Artists were asked to contribute triangle-shaped works inspired by A23a, the world’s largest iceberg. Over 240 artists from 32 countries responded to the call. Each work represents an individual iceberg segment. Together, the contributions form an interactive iceberg pyramid, a collective sculpture of “awareness, beauty, and change”.

Contributions by Anne Weigert, Vera Maria Zapp, and Imagine Par B.

Judith Sturm, who curated the project on behalf of the Art Collection Andersreich, draws particular attention to a package of 150 contributions from Iran. The sender was Abdolreza Rabeti, director of L’Art Institute, an independent art organization with over 500 members. These works are from local art groups, children and adults alike.

The exhibition is further enriched by works of two contemporary German painters: large-format oil iceberg paintings by Rolf Ost, and dramatic icy deserts by Carsten Westphal.
