The British Reading Agency invited mail artists to respond to The Overstory by Richard Powers, a book with nine main characters, although one could argue that the really important beings in the book are not humans, but trees.
Organizers Sarah Bodman and Linda Parr received over 200 works from artists around the world, including Australia, Austria, Belarus, Brazil, Canada, China, Cyprus, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, the UK, and the USA.
Information
The works are on display in the main gallery space of the University of the West of England’s Bower Ashton Library from April 3 to July 30, 2025, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.
The library is located on the first floor of B Block. Public metered parking is available on the main road or in Ashton Court. If you have a question, you can use the online form.
Once the exhibition closes, the works will be exchanged among the participants.
Alternatively, there is a virtual exhibition on Instagram. You can find a poem + photo by Gerald Jatzek here.
