On October 4, the exhibition “Kindness” opened at the Dolphin Gallery in Gualala, California. The theme is popular in the mail art scene. In 2024, there was a call for submissions in Italy.
This year, the gallery, located on the Northern California coast in an area known as the “banana belt,” hosts art exhibitions, performing arts, and community events for Mendocino and Sonoma counties.
1.000 Entries
Following the international call by curator Donnalynn Chase, Perry Hoffman, Robyn Cota Can, and Tom Colson, the Gallery received more than 700 pieces of art from around the globe.
Postcards arrived from Belgium, Germany, Belarus, Malaysia, France, the Czech Republic, Italy, Romania, Turkey, Russia, Japan, Uruguay,United Kingdom, Brazil and Spain, as well as various U.S. states.
Additional works were submitted by pupils of local schools, which were provided with blank, addressed postcards and stamps.

The gallery and store are open Thursday through Tuesday (closed Wednesday), with regular hours of 10 am to 4 pm.
The number of contributions made it possible to open a second exhibition at the White Cap Coffee and Tea in Anchor Bay during October.
Art is free
During the last week of the exhibit at Dolphin Gallery, all the art will be taken down and offered for free to take home. This is according to the fundamental concept of mail art, which is that it should not be part of the art market.
Get a Catalog
The Kindness mail art team selected their favorite pieces from the enormous input and compiled a book. The 71-page book contains examples of over 100 pieces of mail art from 18 countries and 10 U.S. states.
Two MailYourArt contributors, Gabriele Müller and Gerald Jatzek, are represented in it.
Proceeds from the catalog benefit the Gualala Arts Center. The book can be purchased here.
